How People Embraced the Cold with Style and Warmth
Even a hundred years ago, winter didn’t stop people from enjoying the outdoors! I think these pictures below give us a glimpse of how, despite snow and cold weather, people enjoyed themselves.
I like looking at the clothing. Notice the heavy coats. Some are wool and others fur. I remember having a navy Melton wool parka. It was warm but held the snow and my mom always made sure I shook it outside before coming in from play.
I also remember most men wearing fedoras in all types of weather. I always wondered how they kept their ears warm! The knitted toques seem vey similar to the toques of today!
Imagine using a dog team to get around! In the museum we have some of these dog collars and harnesses. The collars are very padded.
The Grenon brothers certainly knew how to strike a pose! Not sure if they were playing around waiting for the train or taking a break from skating at the outdoor rink not far from the station.

Posing at the Winnipegosis train station!
